First Post!

Hi everyone! Welcome to my new blog!!

My name is Katelyn and I've just started researching my family tree. I recently visited the local county records office (I'm from the UK) and was the youngest person researching by about 40 years!

This led me to search for any other young genealogists (I'm 20) and there was nothing online (in the UK - there's plenty in the US). So I've set up this blog so other young people will hopefully read this and perhaps comment, letting me know I'm not alone!

I also plan to use the blog to document my discoveries and possibly ask questions of other genealogists to see if you can help! Very excited to begin the journey!

  1. Katelyn, now that you've joined GeneaBloggers, you must know that some of us older bloggers will follow your blog, too! (Though, of course, I hope you get lots of younger followers, too.) I'm interested to learn what you'll write about U.K. genealogy since I have ancestors from England (Yorkshire and Northumberland). Welcome to GeneaBloggers.

  2. Welcome to Geneabloggers Katelyn. Although I don't fall into your age demographic I still consider myself a 'fairly' young genealogist. I love to see when a young person finds genealogy, it usually indicates you are beyond your years. Looking forward to hearing from a young voice.

  3. Hi Katelyn. Just to let you know, I started my in blog in Feb for much the same reason - I'm 26, so not that much older than you (I like to think!) and I've never met yet anyone my age who actually did genealogy! Welcome to geneabloggers - here's hoping we're the first of many cool young genealogists! Lauren x

  4. Hi Katelyn. I'm pleased to say you are not alone when it comes to young genealogists. I'm nearly 23 and have been researching my ancestry for a good four years or so now. I'm glad there are others out there researching at a young age. Take a look at my website, www.nmcmahon.co.uk. Niall

  5. Hi Katelyn!
I am so excited for you! I began my research at about your age, back when Dinosaurs were roaming the planet.
Now some 30+ years later I'm finding more info than I could have imagined. I will be cheering for your every discovery because I still remember ( a miracle in itself)what each tidbit revealed felt like. Your family is kept alive because of your efforts, your ancestors are smiling!

  6. Katelyn, I'm so excited to have found you! I'm also in my 20s and often feel a little "young" at archives and at genealogical society meetings. I majored in genealogy in college and i am always amazed at how many of my friends love to talk about it at parties and such. Its truly not as dorky as i had come to think. ;) But I love it! I also recently started a blog with the same type of intentions.
    Best of luck!
